When genealogists and probate researchers located an Italian man with a view to passing on his inheritance he was adamant that he should only be contacted using a PO Box address. When this was questioned he claimed that his daughter would kill him for the money. Despite making all parties aware of this the US court dealing with the estate wrote to his home address. His daughter, on discovering the inheritance, reversed over him and is now serving a life sentence!
Another case involved an elderly man’s £100,000 estate which was advertised to find beneficiaries. 30 were tracked down after extensive research but, 18 months later when movers were packing up his belongings, they found a Will taped inside a piano leaving the whole lot to charity.
